First Dog Class

Last night, Harley graduated from his first dog class! For six weeks, I took Harley to the Dakota Valley Humane Society for "Better Dog One" class and he did awesome! There were a few embarrassing moments, but what do you expect with a puppy in a room with a bunch of other dogs! Harley learned the basics such as how to sit, stay, lay down, stand, leave it and watch me (which is to redirect his attention to us). We hope to sign him up for Better Dog Two in the near future, as he still needs to work on barking and not jumping on strangers! Here are some pictures from class and other recent shots!

Grand Marais

Last weekend, Adam and I took a trip up to Grand Marais. It was so beautiful and relaxing! We stayed at Devils Track Lodge on Devils Lake. Wonderful place and the lake was gorgeous! The leaves were starting to turn as well so it was even better! Of course, we brought along Harley! He did really well! Saturday, we took a few hikes in the area. One was farther north on the Devil's Kettle trail and the other was near Lake Superior in Grand Marais. The long weekend defiantly wore him out!

Harley Update

Just thought I'd finally post something, since it's been a while! Our most interesting part of our life right now, aside from school and relaxing, would be our dear Harley! He keeps growing and growing and growing! He's had a few trips to the vet the past few weeks and at his last one he weighed in at 49lbs! Side note: his mom weighs 50lbs....I can only imagine how big his papa is! About a month ago, it was thought that Harley had swallowed a quarter. After weeks of digging through poo and finding nothing, we gave in and had him xrays....no quarter was found! He either had passed it and we missed it or he never swallowed it! We will never know. Last week he was showing some unusual symptoms with his going number one. Scheduled a vet appt ans sure enough he had a UTI. Some antibiotics are taking care of that! Now yesterday, we took away his manhood. He did really well with the operation and was quite happy to see hims Mama when I came to pick him up with some excited whimpering. Poor baby! He is on a pain med for a week and is suppose to rest and not play for 10 days. That part is not going so well and we're only on day one. He's more hyper than ever and its hard to settle him down! The vet said we could give him a sedative, but we may try some more kennel time before spending more money there!

All in all, he is growing into a healthy big puppy and makes us laugh every day! He's learning a lot and we're still working on some things, such as jumping on strangers and walking on the leash. His excitement and energy over power what we try and teach him so its taking some time! We put him in Susan's pool last weekend at the Yngsdal reunion and he seemed to not like that too well. Hopefully that will change the more we expose him to some water fun!

Aside from Harley, we are both now back in school. Adam has a full load of classes and I only have on class half of the semester (dosage calculations). I will start the Nursing courses in February and CANNOT wait! We are also training to run a 10k the end of October that is being put on by our chiropractic office, Northern Life Chiropractics. We have hopes of running a couple half marathons next Summer. All we have in September are a couple get togethers with friends. We are finally having our housewarming party next Saturday....looking forward to that! October won't be too busy either. Going to cheer a few good friends on that are running the Twin Cities marathon the beginning of the month and we also hope to go camping some weekend before it gets too cold!

Quick Update

My lack of updating gives an idea of how busy our Summer has been! It's been wedding season, that's for sure! We've had weddings in Rochester all the way down to Lexington, KY, where Adam's cousins got married. In NINE days, we have ours!!! HOLY COW! The time has flown and I can't believe it's almost here! These last few weeks are just going to be used to tie up loose ends and finish packing for our trip to Aruba! Everything is falling to place, just as it should!

Harley is still growing like a weed! He's probably close to 38lbs. His legs are long and lanky and he still gallops like a horse when he runs as he figures out how to use them! He's learning a ton of commands and his personality keeps shining through. We recently discovered his aggression towards us taking away his raw hides, so we are defiantly working on that one! He especially loves his weekly trips to the dog park lately. He gets a long great with other dogs and does well off-leash walking with us on the trails. We hope to get him along camping with us come August. Other than that, he's continues to keep us guessing and entertained and we love him to pieces!

Summer Begins

After Bath Time

Our late spring/early Summer has been off to a great start and we have been keeping very busy! Not only does Harley keep us on our toes, but we've had three weddings already and more to come in June! Our friends Matt and Emily got married the end of April, Lucas and Michelle's wedding was down near Nashville Memorial weekend and Linz and Zach's wedding was this past weekend! It's definatly wedding season! Still doesn't make the reality of ours being near any more apparent, to me at least! We have so much going on before that that its hard to focus on our own things!

Harley, or as we like to call him, "monster," has been a little busy body! Besides growing like a week, he's getting smarter and smarter. He's starting to learn verbal ques such as "go outside" or "kennel" and "are you hunger?" It's so darn cute! We have discovered that raw hides are a life saver and keep him preoccupied for long periods of time while saving my furniture! The accidents in the house are getting to be few and far between (knock on wood!), so we'll keep our fingers crossed!

Growing So Fast and Discovering His Manhood!

Well, Harley turned 9 weeks this past Saturday and its been one and a half weeks since we've had him. I cannot believe how fast little puppies grow! His legs have gotten longer and his head has gotten bigger! I wish they'd stay smaller longer! He's so much fun, but a lot of work! He's slowly but surely getting the potty thing down. He knows to go outside, but won't ask to go out leaving us with a few surprises every now and then! He can now sit, stay (sometimes) and sit patiently while waiting for his food. He's in a biting stage right now as he is teething with his back molars. Everything from furniture, shoes and our hands get chewed on right now so lets hope this stage ends soon!

He has had many trips so far down to Rochester to meet new people and family pets. He dominates all of the little dogs he encounters by playing too rough, but submisses to the larger dogs when they try to play! It's quite funny! You will also see in the video how Harley has already discovered his manhood...poor Max!

Aside from being busy with Harley, we have managed to make our home more cozy and our own. Adams dad was up this weekend to install our new blinds and they look great! A huge thank you to him for helping with all of our installations as well as to my family for helping us move! It's so fun to have a home finally that is ours and have people over to cook for and entertain! Wedding plans are also on the list right now...down to the details at this moment! Our next few weekends are filled with bachelorette parties and weddings in Byron and Nashville! Really looking forward to all of this excitement to celebrate with our wonderful friends!!

Car Ride Home

At His Mama's House

Well, today is the day that we've been waiting for for five weeks! We drove up to Bethel, MN to bring our little Harley home! The car ride went considerably well. He whined for the first half of it and then slept for the rest and sat in my lap the whole way down. When we got home, he got to meet our neighbors dogs and did well exploring our house. Between playing, training and eating, Harley has fit in about five or so naps! He has already gone to the bathroom outside on command three times, can sit and come when told. He's very smart and a lot of fun!

We did introduce him to Brownie later on in the day and that went ok. He was eagar to chase her and they did a few laps around the bedroom until we called it quits. We'll just have to be persistant in the days to come to continue the introduction!
